Sussex Academy students inducted into music honor society

After being carefully selected on the basis of scholarship, character, leadership and service, 19 new members were inducted into Sussex Academy’s Tri-M Music Honor Society in an Oct. 16 ceremony.
The name Tri-M was derived from the original name of the school’s honor society, Modern Music Masters, said Mike Marotta, band/performing arts teacher and society advisor.
“A member of the Tri-M Music Honor Society is one who sets a good example and is always willing to assist those students who are striving to better themselves in the music department,” Marotta said.
Student inductees for 2025 are Lila Carlisle, Piper Carlisle, Claire Denham, Yolanda Francis, Ryann Hammond, Sadie Knipe, Reed Knowlton, Lor Marsch, Diana Morales Mendez, John Roman Nehrbas, Caroline Oleweiler, Adahuri Ortiz Dionicio, Zander Pine, Zoe Pine, Giovanni Porfido, Evan Spanos, Grace Sweeten, Corey Trench and Gabrielle Yablonski.
The music honor society is governed by student executive board members Oliver Graves, president; Olivia Nehrbas, vice president; Jack Thomas, secretary; Natalie Howard, treasurer; and Lillian Baker, historian and marketing.
Members of Tri-M work and study to foster a greater continued interest and a desire for excellence in music performance; to encourage appreciation and awareness in listening to music; to promote wider opportunities for sharing joy through music both within school and the community; to advance the spirit of good music and musical knowledge; and to enhance the reputation of the school as a center for musical enrichment.
