Sussex Academy students shine in ‘Midsummer Night’s Dream’

December 12, 2025

Sussex Academy high school students presented a notable staging of William Shakespeare's “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” Nov. 14-16.

The production followed several intertwined groups – a pair of young lovers, a band of mischievous fairies, and a troupe of amateur actors – who all wander into an enchanted forest one magical night.

The play marked several firsts for Sussex Academy: its first Shakespearean production; the school’s first show directed by a guest director, Greg Carlisle; and its staging – the show was performed in the three-quarter round with the audience seated directly and intimately on the stage.

“We were so fortunate to have the likes of Mr. Greg Carlisle guide our students through their first Shakespearean production,” said Erin Bobby, Sussex Academy theatre program director. “The kids learned so much and really appreciated his leadership and enthusiasm.”

Sussex Academy is a tuition-free, public charter school in Georgetown.
