Sussex Consortium student creates hearts for Beebe nurses
Sussex Consortium senior Jazmin Tinsley has always enjoyed developing, planning and executing ideas. The Hearts for Beebe project is one example of her doing just that.
Jazmin had the idea to design hearts and write notes to the nursing staff at Beebe Healthcare. She recognized that during the pandemic, area nurses have been working harder, longer and sometimes more difficult hours than they have in the past, and she wanted to show her appreciation for all they do for the community.
Jazmin came up with the idea and then wrote a proposal to share with Sussex Consortium Principal Vivian Bush and her teachers.
“I was so impressed with Jazmin’s determination and drive to execute this project,” Bush said. “To first read her proposal idea and then to see her execute it has been wonderful to watch.”
In her proposal, Jazmin outlined how she would include other students throughout the consortium, and once it was approved, she moved forward with executing her idea.
“Jazmin works as a teaching assistant for the Little Vikings Preschool,” said Eva Schmitt-Robbins, Jazmin’s teacher. “So, she even had some of the preschool students create hearts for the nurses while she was working in their classroom.”
The final step in Jazmin’s project included delivering the hearts Feb. 9 to Beebe Manager of Volunteer Services Lee Halloran. Halloran plans to find a location within the hospital to hang all the hearts so nurses and medical staff can read the notes of appreciation from the Consortium students as they pass by.
