Sussex County Federal Credit Union celebrates Credit Union Day

December 23, 2014

International Credit Union Day is a time to recognize the positive impact that members of financial cooperatives make on local, national and international levels. Sussex County Federal Credit Union took the opportunity to honor its members during an ICU day celebration held at its branches Oct. 16. Members were greeted and thanked for their continued support and loyalty to the credit union movement, and treated to refreshments and giveaways.

During the past year, SCFCU members, staff and volunteers united to support local efforts and initiatives that directly impacted lives in area communities. Whether it was raising funds for the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition, reducing the threat of identity theft by providing community shred events, or contributing to the financial literacy and education of students, the power of making a difference was a constant at SCFCU. When asked what makes credit union members so passionate and generous, Sharee L. Coleman, SCFCU vice president of marketing said, "Credit union members understand the power of the cooperative spirit; whether it's joining forces to raise money for a charitable need in the community or working together to deter identity theft. They know that to do good collectively, you have to do your part individually, and they always step up. We consider it an honor to serve not only their financial needs but to also support the causes that are important to them and their families. Our latest joint effort is to make sure that children in Sussex County experience the joy of opening a gift on Christmas morning through the Toys for Tots campaign; I'm sure the bins at our branches will be overflowing from our members' and our staff's generosity."

For more than 55 years, Sussex County Federal Credit Union has existed as a not-for-profit, member-owned and -operated financial institution serving those who live, work, worship, attend school and/or volunteer in Sussex County or the City of Milford.
