Support is growing for frontline workers in the battle against the COVID-19 virus, and members of the Sussex County Air Force are set to help, coordinating a countywide flyover starting at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 23.

“Unfortunately, the Thunderbirds and Blue Angels are not scheduled to fly over Sussex County,” said organizer Walt Palmer. “Our people are working hard for us and deserve recognition and support.”

Palmer, WGMD FM program director and also a pilot, contacted the owner of the locally hangered B-25 Mitchell Bomber Panchito. “It took about two seconds to say yes, and the event is growing to include other assets from the Delaware Aviation Museum,” Palmer said.

The flight path will include flyovers of Bayhealth, Beebe and Nanticoke hospitals. Additionally, planes will fly over Route 1, Route 113 and Route 13 to include nearly all of Sussex County.

To make a donation to help offset costs of the event, go to www.delawareaviationmuseum.org/donations.html or Sussex County Air Force at GoFundMe.com. Donations are tax deductible.
