Sussex Habitat awarded $1.5M grant for home repair program
Sussex County Habitat for Humanity has been awarded $1.5 million from Federal Home Loan Bank of Pittsburgh for its Healthy Homes repair program.
As part of FHLB Pittsburgh’s Voluntary Housing Grant Initiative, the funds will allow the organization to provide 100 home repairs for properties occupied by low-income homeowners. Since 2019, Sussex County Habitat for Humanity’s program has provided more than 600 such repairs.
“The impact this grant will have on our homeowners is unmeasurable,” said Ricky Pollitt, Susssex Habitat director of development. “We are grateful to FHLB Pittsburgh for providing us this funding and excited to keep growing our Healthy Homes Program. This project will address a critical need and help preserve affordable housing stock throughout the county.”
The Healthy Homes Program allows low-income homeowners impacted by age, disability and family circumstances to reclaim their homes with pride and dignity. Repairs include floors, decks, ramps, painting, and electrical and plumbing work.
To qualify for this program, residents must own their homes and make no more than 80% of the Area Median Income. Sussex County Habitat for Humanity is on track to record 120 home repairs before the end of June.
