Sussex Tech health students win awards at state competition

Sussex Tech team members represented the school’s health professions, dental services, and physical therapy/athletic health care technical areas at the HOSA-Future Health Professionals state competition.

First-place winners are eligible for the national competition in June in Orlando, Fla.

Winners included: CPR/First Aid: second place for the team of Karli Sunnergren, senior, Georgetown, and Onaedo Okoye, senior, Millsboro; HOSA Bowl: first place for the team of Nayelis Gonzalez Sanchez, junior, Seaford, Sheila Velasquez-Diaz, sophomore, Georgetown, Amber Blann, senior, Ellendale, and Lillian Kwiecien, sophomore, Frankford; and second place for the team of Gavin Walter, senior, Seaford, Shane Coulbourne, senior, Milton, and Jilver Angel-Velasquez, senior, Bridgeville; Job-Seeking Skills: first place for Jonathan Lee, senior, Milford; nutrition: first place for Uriel Sanchez, junior, Rehoboth Beach; and third place for Jessica John, junior, Seaford; Physical Therapy: first place for Olivia Morton, senior, Rehoboth Beach, and third place for Taylor Wroten, senior, Greenwood; Dental Science: second place for Bri Smith, junior, Seaford, and third place for Jaz Reinhold, junior, Laurel; Medical Terminology: third place for Alyssa Bradley, junior, Millsboro; and Dental Terminology: first place for Alexis Porohnavi, senior, Georgetown; second place for Gabrielle Guy, senior, Laurel; and third place for Rebekah Hitchcock, senior, Georgetown.
