Sussex Tech to offer summer program for seventh- and eighth-graders

May 16, 2022

Dr. Matthew B. Donovan, principal of Sussex Technical High School in Georgetown, announced a new two-week summer program called the 2022 Raven Academy Exploratory Program, which will introduce rising seventh- and eighth-grade students in Sussex County to Sussex Tech’s vocational offerings.

“Vocational-technical education programming provides students with practical learning opportunities and hands-on experiences to prepare graduates for a career or postsecondary opportunity,” said Donovan.

“We will give students an introduction to a variety of vocational areas to help them determine their area of interest going forward,” said Ed Stough, a carpentry teacher at Sussex Tech.

Four two-day sessions held during the last two weeks of June will include exploration of the following vocational-technical areas: Automotive technologies, business, finance and marketing, carpentry and construction management, collision-repair technologies, cosmetology, dental services, digital publishing and design, early care and education, HVAC-R engineering, landscape and environmental, legal support services and criminal justice, media broadcasting, and welding and fabrication.

Seating is limited to 15 students per vocational area per session on a first-come, first-served basis. Transportation will be provided to local Sussex County communities. There is no charge for the exploratory sessions, which will include breakfast and lunch. To register online, go to sussexvt.org.
