Sussex Tech welcomes new staff members
New Assistant Principal Dr. John Sell welcomed 17 new staff members at Sussex Tech during the 2013-14 staff orientation session.
Carle Ax will be teaching geometry and Algebra 2. She earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Wesley College and her master’s degree in teaching from the University of Delaware. Ax will also serve as assistant volleyball coach for the Lady Ravens.
H.J. Bunting is Sussex Tech’s new auto technology teacher. He has 23 years of experience as an auto technician at First State Chevrolet.
Laura Cable will be teaching English and be the junior class advisor. She is a graduate of Rutgers University with a bachelor’s degree in English and a master’s degree in education.
Timothy "T.J." Dukes is a graduate of Sussex Tech who returns to teach the new HVAC technology classes. He obtained his master’s degree in education from Wilmington University and has been teaching HVAC in Somerset County, Md. schools.
Michael Fay comes to Sussex Tech to teach social studies. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Kent State University and his educational certificate from Cedar Creek College in Allentown, Pa.
Hong Xuan (Jenny) Fu comes to Sussex Tech to teach Chinese as part of the Chinese Guest Teacher Program, a collaboration of the College Board and China’s Confucius Institute Headquarters/Hanban. The program places visiting teachers from China in U.S. schools for one to three years in order to jump-start or expand school Chinese language and culture programs.
Matt Holmes is joining the physical education and health department after previously being the media assistant and ISS moderator at Sussex Tech. He received his bachelor’s degree from Newberry College in South Carolina and his master’s degree in curriculum and instruction from Salisbury University. Holmes will also be helping to coach football, track, and strength and conditioning.
Benjamin Ketz will be teaching science. He previously taught science at Hope International School in Beijing, China. Ketz received his bachelor’s degree from Penn State University and his master’s degree in chemistry from Stanford University.
Tim Lee has 24 years of experience in various areas of the educational profession. He will be teaching driver education at Sussex Tech. Lee has a bachelor’s degree in history and a master’s degree in school leadership and administration.
Adam McGuire comes to Sussex Tech to teach mathematics. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Wesley College and his master’s degree in teaching from the University of Delaware.
Stephanie Pegelow has three years of teaching experience to bring to her new position at Sussex Tech as a shared approach/English teacher and freshman class advisor. She earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Delaware and a master’s degree in secondary teaching from Wilmington University. She is pursuing a doctoral degree in educational leadership from Widener University.
Michael Parillo will be teaching English 10 and 11. He earned his bachelor’s degree in English literature from Hunter College of the City University of New York in Manhattan and his master’s degree in English literature from the University of Delaware. Parillo is currently completing a second master’s degree in education from the University of Delaware.
Steven Rust is joining the criminal justice and legal support technical department. He brings much experience to the position after having served as an operations lieutenant with the Milford Police Department. He is also a certified accident reconstructionist. Rust graduated from the FBI National Academy and the Delaware State Police Academy.
Sarah Sacksteder has been teaching social studies for 10 years. She will specialize in civics, economics and psychology at Sussex Tech. Sacksteder has a bachelor’s degree in secondary social studies education from Ohio Northern University.
George Smith is also a graduate of Sussex Tech. He has returned to be a shared approach teacher in 11th-grade English. Smith has a bachelor’s degree in business management and a master’s degree in special education.
Sherri Smith is Sussex Tech’s student activities coordinator. She brings much experience to the position after being an agricultural teacher, shared approach teacher, and working in elementary education and alternative education. Smith has a bachelor’s degree in elementary education/early childhood education and a master’s degree in school leadership. She is pursuing a doctorate in education.
Dona Troyer is Smith’s assistant in the student activities office. Her three years of substitute teaching at Sussex Tech and her four children who have either graduated from or are presently attending Sussex Tech have provided her with much knowledge for her new position. Troyer has a bachelor’s degree from Salisbury University and is pursing her master’s degree in counseling.
