Tunnel to Towers race draws 400 participants

Firefighters, fully loaded down, run the race to honor Stephen Siller

The third annual Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers 3.43-mile run was held Sept. 19, starting and finishing at Fort Miles inside Cape Henlopen State Park. 

A bald eagle sat in a tree overlooking the opening ceremonies. A total of 307 registered runners completed the distance, including many firefighters in full equipment. 

Ryan Eldredge, 33, of Mount Joy, Pa., was the overall winner in 23:20. Abigail Eldredge, 32, of Mount Joy was 10th overall and fastest female in 26:34. 

Chris Stanley, 52, won the male masters in 25:16, while Kathleen York won the female masters in 28:34.

The 13-and-under combined male and female division had 29 participants, with Easton Tuck, 10, of Chestertown, Md., the fastest male and Kinsley Cunningham, 7, of Chestertown the fastest female.
