A total of 286 5K runners ran by Dewey Beach Liquors at 7:30 a.m. on a Sunday morning, but it was closed for business.
They all came back inside an hour, but it was still closed. The finish line was at The Ivy back by Rehoboth Bay. There was fresh water straight up for everyone.
“This was the 13th Dewey Beach Liquors 5K,” said Race Director Wayne Kursh. “We are happy with the great turnout.”
Matt Wagoner, 42, threw it into high gear, all-wheel drive, leading from post to paddock in a time of 17:10. Matt was chased to the finish line by Joshua Breighner in 17:30, Kareem Sanjaghi in 18:50, Ryan Breighner in 19:01 and Brian O’Connor in 19:13.
Mike Marciano, 30, was the first finisher with a Delaware address, in 19:26.
Emily Schuler, 17, from York, Pa., was the first woman in 20:30. She was joined on the top five leaderboard by Allison Gedney in 22:21, Mardiny Ung in 22:37, Anna Merrill in 23:01 and Diane Ward in 23:06.
Dennis Albright, 47, of Ellicott City, Md., won the male masters race in 19:33. Mardiny Ung, 52, of Elizabethtown, Pa., was female masters champion in 22:37.
