Walter Francis Reeves III, loved God, family, friends

September 18, 2023

Walter Francis Reeves III, 75, of Long Neck, formerly of Springfield, Pa., passed peacefully to his eternal home surrounded by his family Thursday, Sept. 14, 2023. Walt’s Christian faith gave him strength and hope each day, especially during his illness.

He was born May 13, 1948, in Philadelphia, Pa., to Anna Roberta (Dodd) and Walter Francis Reeves Jr.

Upon his return from the Army in 1971, Walt went to work at Penn Mutual Insurance Company in Philadelphia as a computer programmer. He held various positions in small data processing companies throughout his professional career. Later in life, he was called to the Methodist ministry and became a pastor. He first served as the associate pastor at his family church, CC Hancock in Springfield, before moving to live full time in Long Neck for the last nine years. He went on to serve as pastor for St. John’s Church and Providence Church in Georgetown for three years before retiring from the ministry.

Having enjoyed childhood summers and many vacations at the family home on the canal in Lewes, he always carried a strong connection with the area. Walt made Delaware his second home over 20 years ago, and promptly bought a boat that gave him countless hours of pleasure. In addition to all things water-related, he had a love of old television classics, anything shown on the History Channel, and sci-fi books and movies.

He is survived by his wife, Regina (Caporal), who was and always will be his high school sweetheart. They would have been married 55 years in November. He is also survived by his daughters, Amy Spaccarelli (Tom) and Lauren Reeves (John); his son, Bradley Reeves; his grandchildren, Brian Spaccarelli (Lexi), Payton Spaccarelli, Jason Spaccarelli, Justin Fremont (Megan), Jacob Fremont and Dean Fremont; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Eileen Fetterman and her husband Clint; and his granddaughters, Morgan and Sarah Spaccarelli.

A funeral service will be held at noon, Saturday, Sept. 23, at St. John’s Church, Gravel Hill and Springfield Crossroads, Georgetown, with visitation from 10 a.m. to noon. Burial will be at St. John’s cemetery immediately following.

The family welcomes donations in Walter’s name to St. John’s Church, c/o Teresa Moore-Adams, 22910 Park Ave., Georgetown, DE 19947; or Providence Church, c/o Connie Mears, 21595 Paradise Road, Georgetown, DE 19947.

Arrangements in the care of Short Funeral Services, Georgetown.
