William J. Teletchea, proud veteran, family man
William J. Teletchea passed away peacefully Saturday, April 26, 2025, at Delaware Bay Rehabilitation Center. He was born Dec. 13, 1938, in Cambridge, Mass. A proud veteran, William served honorably in the U.S. Marine Corps, exemplifying a lifelong commitment to patriotism and service.
In his youth, William was a gifted athlete. His passion for baseball led to him being drafted by the Braves organization to play in their minor league system — a testament to his remarkable skill and dedication. He remained an enthusiastic sports fan throughout his life, especially cheering on his beloved Washington Capitals.
Above all else, William was a devoted family man. He is survived by his sister, Janet; daughters, Joan (Glen) Mitchell, Donna (Ed) Banasiak and Lori (Mary) Teletchea; his son, John (Nicki) Teletchea; stepchildren, Bob and Beth; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. William cherished time with his family and took immense pride in their accomplishments.
Following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather, William built a long and proud career as a union printer at the Government Printing Office, serving there for over 30 years. He was also an active member of the American Legion, continuing his commitment to the community and fellow veterans well beyond his military service.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Martha Beighley; his parents, Owen Sulpice and Margaret Hughes; his siblings, Owen, Joseph, Jean and John; his stepson, William; and his grandson, Eddie Banasiak.
William found companionship and joy with his loving partner, Loretta Weber, in his final years.
A graveside service to honor William’s life will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, May 23, at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro. Following the service, there will be an opportunity for fellowship with family and friends.
William’s legacy of service, love for family, and passion for sports will be forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.
