Young talent showcased at Alley Oop’s Skim Jam

September 5, 2023

The Atlantic Ocean was a little rough, but young skimboarders were smooth riders at Alley Oop’s Skim Jam Sept. 1 in Dewey Beach. The contest was an event to show off the accumulation of skills learned this summer at Alley Oop’s camps, lessons and clinics.

Each heat gave the skimmers six minutes to show their stuff to professional judges.

Taking first in the girls’ competition was Savannah Hope. Morgan Ryan took second, third went to Julia Bolibruch, Ainsley Kurtz garnered fourth, and Olivia Derrick placed fifth.

The beginner category had Kellan Davis taking the top spot. Ashton Wilson placed second, Ezra Miller took third and Harris Curry placed fourth.

The intermediate top spot went to Lincoln Wilson, with Ryder Magaw placing second, Jamie Brand third and Brody Chandler-Thompson fourth.

Tristan Barnes took first in the advanced group, with Killian Davis in second. Jake Kremedas took third, while Cooper Forcucci placed fourth.

“This was an event to celebrate all of the kids who have worked so hard in camps and lessons all summer,” said Alley Oop instructor and former world champion Lucas McCoy. “It was really great to bring families together for one last event of the summer. We are hoping to do more of these in the future. Hopefully these events inspire the next generation to keep having fun through skimboarding, and motivate more kids to try it out.”
