Zelky’s Beach Arcade stepped up to support a major community project in Sussex County during an April 16 fundraising event at Abbott’s Grill, when Zelky’s CEO Matt Weiner presented a $25,000 check to the Sussex Rotary Can-Do Playground, moving the project significantly closer to its fundraising goal.
The Can-Do Playground is currently under development at Stephen P. Hudson Park west of Lewes. Unlike a standard park, this facility is being built from the ground up to be fully inclusive. It features specialized equipment and sensory zones where children of all abilities and their families can play together in a space that feels safe and welcoming.
For Zelky’s, supporting this project was an easy decision. “Our whole business model at Zelky’s revolves around play and family memories,” Matt Weiner said. “When we saw what the Sussex Rotary Clubs were planning for the Can-Do Playground, we knew we wanted to be part of it. Every kid in our county deserves a place where they can just be a kid, regardless of their physical or cognitive needs. We’re proud to help bring that to Sussex County.”
The project is hitting a big milestone, but there is still work to do. The Sussex Rotary Can-Do Playground Inc. is working toward an $860,000 total goal to complete the site. Once finished, it will feature dedicated play zones for children of all ages, a swing area, and a quiet sensory space. Located right on Route 9 along the Lewes-Georgetown bike/walking trail, it’s a central spot for families across the region.
Zelky’s has been a staple on the Rehoboth Boardwalk for decades, and this partnership with the Rotary reflects the company’s ongoing commitment to the local community that supports them.
“We aren’t just a business on the boardwalk; we live and work here in Sussex County,” said Weiner. “Seeing everyone come together to build something this meaningful is inspiring. We’re just happy to help keep the project moving forward.”
