‘Drive’ scored live at Revival House Nov. 20
Returning for a third year to score a film live on stage for Revival House, musician Ariel Piazza will provide audience members with an original composition for the critically acclaimed “Drive,” at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 20, for the You Know the Score cinematic musical evening at Milton Theatre.
“This event is one of our favorites we produce all year,” said Rob Rector, co-founder of Revival House. “It’s such a unique cinematic experience, unlike any other live film scoring being done, and Ariel has received a standing ovation in the past for her work. It’s just a perfect combination.”
For this year’s event, Revival House selected the dark, moody “Drive,” starring Ryan Gosling, Bryan Cranston, Carey Mulligan and an equally strong supporting cast. “We thought the film fit perfectly with Ariel’s style of music, as she has a very ethereal, atmospheric sound that should complement the film quite well,” Rector said.
Piazza, formerly of Lewes, will unveil her score to the public live in this one-time-only event.
“From late nights pacing and creating, to hours of time in the day writing and rewriting, to sleeping on everything for a week to only scrap it and start over – it’s all a really wonderful thing I heavily enjoy,” Piazza said of creating her own film score.
Piazza is a self-taught musician who has been performing on various instruments since she was 10 years old. She picked up various string instruments with the same passion and began performing gigs in high school. While attending SUNY in Rochester, she performed shows at local restaurants and introduced her sound to a larger audience.
Released in 2011, “Drive” follows an unnamed protagonist played by Gosling, a stunt driver for Hollywood productions who moonlights as a getaway driver for some of the city’s more nefarious individuals. The solitary driver strikes up a relationship with his neighbor, played by Mulligan, and her son. When the boy’s father, played by Oscar Isaac, returns from a prison stint, the driver agrees to help him settle outstanding debts with a local kingpin, played by Albert Brooks.
Tickets are $10, or $5 for students and seniors. Doors open at 6 p.m..
