Celebrating the Life of Dr. John McDougall

Today I invite you to celebrate the life of Dr. John McDougall who died earlier this week. He was a luminary, literally and figuratively. In my book GO VEG WITH CLASS, I write about his impact on my life and health. I first met him in person at his medical program in California in 2015 and then traveled with him on a McDougall Adventure in Hawaii in 2017.

Here is a blog post from September 24, 2015.

Why is this woman grinning from ear to ear? Because Yours Truly is standing beside John McDougall, M.D., Medical Director of the MCDOUGALL PROGRAM in Santa Rosa, California. But there's more. I am very happy to be standing beside this brilliant, generous doctor because he has "stood with" me through his writings, recordings and now in person as one who cares passionately about empowering patients to take charge of their own health through dietary change.

Each day Dr. McDougall has been presenting the results of his research, studies, and experiences with patients and with other medical professionals from all over the globe. That research demonstrates the benefits of a dietary shift from our animal-based diet to a plant-based diet with emphasis on the value of starches (potatoes, winter squash, whole grains, beans and fruit.) He has invited other experts in the fields of medicine, psychology, fitness, nutrition and food to prepare patient participants for success when they return to their homes.
