Summer League recap for the week of July 15, 2019

 

Elementary Division

 

The #1 seeded Dunes moved into the championship game by virtue of a 1-0 forfeit win over the short-handed Waves who had too many athletes away for vacations. The #2 seeded Guards eked out a 1-0 win over the Tides on a first half goal by Catherine Peranteau at 8:22. The championship game will be played at 6:00 on Champions Stadium turf on Wednesday, July 17.

Presentation of awards will follow the game.

 

 

 

Senior Division

Avery Congleton’s goal at the end of the opening game of the night forced a tie between the Bengals and the Baffins. The tie knocked the Baffins out of a potential playoff spot. Brynn McCabe opened the game with her goal at 18:04 for the Baffins, Rylie Cordrey scored at 16:55 to even the score for the Bengals. Then McCabe’s second goal at 1:43 put the Baffins into the half time lead. Amanda Sponaugle evened the game with her goal at 17:17 of the second half before Olivia Sananilone’s pair of goals pushed the Baffins lead to 4-2. Sponaugle scored at 5:08 to get the Bengals within one before Congleton got the game tying score.

 In the second game of the evening, the Pumas mounted a second half effort to earn a 2-2 tie with the Seahawks. The tie jumped the Pumas into the championship game vs the Corals. Carrie Clausius opened scoring with her goal at 5:01 for the Seahawks. Hannah Palm scored at 16:48 to push the lead to 2-0 but Lily Ashby answered at 11:34 and Sommer Dorman scored at 2:50 eveing the game and putting the Pumas into the championship game.

The Artics finished off their season with a 3-0 win over the Corals and earned third place in the pool. Amanda Fruman had the big scoring night with the hat trick for the Artics.

The championship game between the Corals and the Pumas is scheduled for 7:15 on Wednesday evening, following the elementary division championship game.

Come out to see the action on Wednesday at Cape Henlopen HS on the turf in Champions Stadium.
