Recap from the Shooting Stars Tournament

Richmond, VA

11/27/11/29/2020

Game #1

Well, it was a typical first tourney game for us, still meeting and greeting each other but not a good outcome. 0-8 to the eventual pool champion.

Game #2

Now we started to play much better and earned a 4-1 result. Carrie Clausius (Lily assisted) at 14:33. They tied the game with their only goal at 3:30 but Carrie answered with her second of the day at 2:07. Lily Ashby scored on a penalty stroke at 20:10 and Emma Sekscinski finished out the scoring with her goal at 12:49.

Game #3

Early morning start didn’t bother us too much with a 2-1 win.  They took the first half lead with a goal at 11:44. Liv Muir got the tying goal at 16:44 of the second half on a reverse chip shot and Carrie Clausius got the game winner at 00:55 with an assist from Lily Ashby. We had 10 PC called against us with only one for us but we got a great game from our goalies.

Game #4

A very strange game from the sidelines. They got a goal in the first half for the lead at 2:55. Emma Westbrook tied it up with a goal at 19:40 of the second half. They answered with a goal at 17:20 and then scored the winning goal a scoop off a penalty corner at 10:45. Sommer Dorman scored at 7:48 but we could not get the tying goal. In this game we had 9 penalty corners while they one had two.

Game #5

All the scoring action in the final game was in the opening half then everyone seemed to hit the wall for the second half. Emma Sekscinski got us the early lead with a goal at 16:24 with an assist by Lily Ashby. They scored their solo goal at 14:28 but then it was all us. Jessica Rybicki scored on a penalty corner drive at 7:20. Madi Simpson also scored on a penalty corner at 5:30 and Emma Westbrook finished off the scoring with a goal at 00:49.

Final outcome for our tourney was 3rd place (yes we tied for second on points but the head to head tie breaker put Pittsburgh ahead of us). Take away the opening game and we had a super goal differential (the best in the pool) but got to be ready to play each game in a tourney like this.

Good luck to all our Delaware Shore athletes from SAS, Lake, Cape, and IR (sure hope I didn’t miss a team).
