Continuing a time honored Mother's Day tradition, many members of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Cape Henlopen Lodge 2540, volunteered their time, whipped up and served a delicious complimentary all-you-can-eat breakfast for mothers who are Elk members or wives of Elk members. All others were invited for the modest price of $6 per person.
This well attended event began early Sunday, Mothers' Day morning with Exalted Ruler Joe Hayes acting as a server, making sure the orders were taken out to the waiting moms and their families hot and in record time. Breakfast fare included all of the familiar items complete with good wishes for all mothers.
The cooks and wait staff for the day all were Elks officers and other Elk volunteers, some of whom were moms themselves. The hall was filled with the happy voices of beautiful babies, small children, parents, grandparents and even some great-grandparents. It was a truly multi-generational event enjoyed by all. Many people joined in the festivities coming from as far away as Fenwick Island, Bethany Beach, Milton and Milford.
