Mélomanie, the Delaware-based ensemble known for its provocative pairings of baroque and contemporary music will perform at 4 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 4, at CAMP Rehoboth Community Center. The event will feature the premiere of "Just a Regular Child" from Delaware composer David Schelat as well as La Piémontoise (from Les Nations) by Couperin and works by Guignon, Bartók and Corelli.
"’Just a Regular Child’ by our friend David Schelat is written for flute and harpsichord," says Mélomanie harpsichordist and co-artistic director Tracy Richardson. "This piece is full of warmth and exuberance, athleticism and charm, and in it, David reminds us of our childhoods - running around, daydreaming, getting into mischief."
"I'm delighted to have written a piece for two of my favorite Wilmington musicians, Kim Reighley [flutist] and Tracy Richardson," says Schelat. "In the three movements of the piece, each has its own mood. Once it was complete, I realized that these could be described as scenes from childhood - three snapshots of 'just a regular child's' moods and activities."
