Sussex Tech graduates 285
Sussex Technical High School graduated 285 students in the Class of 2011 during commencement ceremonies June 2 at Raven Stadium. The class requested assistant principal Mike Firch be their featured speaker at the ceremonies.
Firch told the students that they will be asked to do many great things and to remember that things that make a difference are all worth doing. He also urged the graduates to reach out to others every day. He told them to enjoy the journey of life and along the way remember that a firm handshake and a smile always brings comfort to everyone.
Class President Allison Haas of Milton welcomed the audience to Sussex Tech. She thanked everyone who encouraged her to attend Sussex Tech when she was a freshman. “One part of our lives will always be at Sussex Tech,” said Haas. She also said that everyone (the students) should be a little scared and nervous about leaving Sussex Tech. But Haas said she is confident everyone will be okay because Sussex Tech has taught them how to make good choices.
Salutatorian Tianna Hutchins of Seaford highlighted several references to Dr. Seuss’s philosophies. “Sometimes the questions can be complicated, but the answers are simple,” Hutchins said. “So be all you can be."
Valedictorian Jake Jones of Milford encouraged his classmates to retain the Sussex Tech mind frame of always trying your hardest. “We are all good at something, we just have to find out at what,” Jones said.
