The eighth annual Rehoboth Run for Economics June 4 was won by Martin Rodriguez, 31, of Selbyville in a time of 18 minutes flat. Martin was chased to the finish line by 14-year-old DJ Farren in a time of 19:04.
Rounding out the rest of the top 10 were Mike Sewell, 47, 19:25; Bobby Hutton, 53, 19:40; Chris Stanley, 48, 19:49; Joey Andrisani, 34, 20:05; John Blackford, 40, 20:12; Ashton Early, 31, first woman, 20:45; Breck Vanderwende, 43, 20:48; and Frank Cannon, 40, 21:19.
A total of 129 athletes ran the race. Mike Sewell, 19:25, and Meryl Ludwig, 22:43, captured the masters titles.
Notable age-group times were Bennett Brumbley, 9, 23:01; Makayla Cannon, 15, 22:39; Beth Graham, 32, 25:44; Jeremy Ratner, 39, 21:36; Jen Forman, 38, 23:16; Mardiny Ung, 50, 23:53; David Landis, 57, 22:48; Margaret Colvin, 55, 24:14; Clifton Anderson, 63, 21:55; Jill Extract, 60, 28:27; Jules Woodall, 69, 25:52; Chuck Speight, 71, 25:38; JoAnn Szczepkowski, 71, 26:39; Jack Noel, 78, 41:48; and Jamie Wollard, 79, 53:06.
Many local runners, from Dover to Delmar, run two races a weekend, sometimes three, pushing 100 races per year and spending close to $2,500 in entry fees alone.
