August 30, 2017

Delaware Good Sam Club announces its annual 2017 Delaware State Camping Rally will be Friday-Sunday, Sept. 8-10, at the Delaware State Fairgrounds in Harrington. Thursday, Sept. 7 will be an early bird day.

Fun activities include a theme costume contest, an RV decorating contest and a theme basket contest. There will be bean bag baseball, cornhole, morning hospitality, games, a craft and flea market, ticket auction Saturday, optional dinner Saturday evening and door prizes. Entertainment will be by a local garage band Saturday evening and by gospel singers Sunday morning. Delaware Good Sam will be raising funds for Dogs for Deaf, Heart Association and a local food bank.

Campers do not have to be members to attend. The camping rally is open to all campers, whether they camp in a tent, travel trailer, fifth wheel or motorhome.

The Good Sam Club takes its name from the term Good Samaritan. In 1966, cartoonist E.C. Bilsland Jr. sketched a dark-haired character with a broad smile and a halo to personify the spirit of Good Samaritan RVers. A group of RVers began placing Good Samaritan stickers on the bumper of their trailers while on the road to let fellow RV families know they were there to help. The idea spread through RV parks and campgrounds across the U.S. and Canada until the club developed into what it is today. The goal remains to make RVing safer and more enjoyable, and save members money through club-endorsed benefits and services. The Good Sam Club now boasts 1 million RVing families. Members have fun, stop to help one another and meet responsibilities to the environment, highways and parks. Over 2,000 chapters throughout the United States and Canada support hundreds of local charities and civic projects.
