Rehoboth Art League 73rd Members' Fine Art Exhibit begins July 22

July 20, 2011

The Rehoboth Art League’s 73rd Annual Members’ Fine Art Exhibit showcasing the work of more than 100 of its members will open Friday, July 22,  in the Corkran and Tubbs galleries with a reception free and open to the public from 5 to 7 p.m.

The show will be on display through Friday, Aug. 26. Each participant has entered one work of art to be judged, and 12 awards will be given.

This year’s featured artist is Geraldine Czajkowski from Grasonville, Md. This national and regional award winner was influenced by abstract expressionism, drawing inspiration from the works of De Kooning, Rivers and Guston. A career in patent illustration encouraged the use of graphic content in her paintings. Today her illuminating mixed media works explore shifting color and visual harmony using a myriad of textures from handmade Japanese and Thai papers to string, metal leafs, burlap, pumice and fiber gels, and found objects, all capturing the excitement and color of expressionism blended with the hard lines of illustration.

Czajkowski studied for five years under Bethesda, Md., artist Dan Mistrik and holds a BFA from Ohio University. She most recently won the Event Designer Award for Saks Fifth Avenue’s Tsunami Benefit in Tyson’s Corner and is an artist contributor to the National Museum for Women in the Arts’ art auction.

This year’s judge is René Treviño. Treviño has had numerous solo exhibitions, which include the C. Grimaldis Gallery and the Creative Alliance, both in Baltimore, Md. He has also participated in many group exhibitions. He has had artist residencies at the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, Mass., and Creative Alliance in Baltimore. Treviño is adjunct faculty at both Maryland Institute of Contemporary Art and Towson University and is exhibitions coordinator at School 33 Art Center in Baltimore, Md.

During this same time period, the Rehoboth Art League will feature its Members' Showcase: Pottery in the Homestead. More than 10 art league potters will have their functional and decorative ceramic creations on exhibit and for sale.

This program is made possible, in part, by a grant from the Delaware Division of the Arts, a state agency dedicated to nurturing and supporting the arts in Delaware, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts.
