Cape volleyball handles Polytech 3-0

October 17, 2017

Senior outside hitter Sophia Spinelli knocked down 15 kills and picked up eight digs to pace the Lady Vikings to a 25-10, 27-25 and 25-14 victory over the visiting Panthers Oct. 12.

Spinelli has 103 kills and 55 digs on the season despite missing a game due to sickness.

“Sophie did a great job of fighting through some sickness to post a huge night for us,” said Cape coach Tyler Coupe.

Senior setter Logan Shuttleworth finished the game with 23 assists, six kills and eight digs. Freshman libero Emily Lamb bumped 16 digs in the contest, while Katie Knarr had 13.

“Logan made some really smart decisions at clutch times that enabled us to create separation from them,” Coupe said.

“I'm stoked with our team. They came out and performed,” said Coupe. “I thought for sets two and three we executed our game plan well. We were able to serve them out of system and spread the ball offensively on our end.”

The Lady Vikings will travel to Sussex Academy (9-1) Tuesday, Oct. 17, for a Henlopen Conference matchup with the Seahawks.

“We're playing some of our best ball,” Coupe said. “And I'm hopeful we're able to keep that up, as we have a tough week with three matches ahead of us.”
