Seaford's Ginger Trader elected DAR vice president general

Members convene at 120th Continental Congress in Wash., D.C.

Ginger Trader, Delaware honorary state regent, member of the Mary Vining Chapter based in Seaford, was elected vice president general at the 120th Continental Congress, the annual convention of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution and a time-honored tradition that has been held in Washington, D.C., as the annual national meeting of the membership since the organization’s founding in 1890.

More than 3,500 national, state and chapter leaders as well as other members from around the world gathered to report on the year’s work, honor outstanding award recipients, plan future initiatives and reconnect with friends.

Highlights of the convention included Opening Night Ceremonies observing the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks, a National Defense Night dedicated to honoring the nation’s military, an awards night recognizing leaders such as the National Outstanding Teacher of American History, and exceptional high school scholars, and community leaders who have made tremendous contributions in the areas of conservation, community service and lifelong leadership and patriotism.

While at Congress, Trader was elected vice president general of the national society. Trader’s participation on the national level includes service on the National Board of Directors, vice chairman Eastern Division Speakers’ Staff, and DAR Tamassee School Advisory Committee. She holds life memberships in NSDAR, National Officers’ Club, National State Regents’ Club, Heritage Club, and Founders Club. A former Delaware state regent, she has been active on both the state and local level since joining the society in 1992. The former Virginia Hudson and her family have been active citizens in the area beginning prior to 1745 when her patriot ancestor John Phillips was born. She is married to Brandon E. Trader. They have one son, Troy. A commodity broker specializing in poultry sales, Trader is a member of the Laurel Church of Christ, charter member Delmar Historical Society, past president Delmar Alumni Association, past president Delmar Band Booster, 4-H leader, volunteer for Big Brothers, Big Sisters, senior president Nanticoke Society, and active in the National Society Children of the American Revolution.

Special guests participating in the week’s festivities included former White House Situation Room Director Rear Adm. Deborah Loewer as a part of the 911 Observance on Opening Night as well as Army Gen. Raymond T. Odierno, one of the United States military’s leading strategists, who served as the keynote speaker on National Defense Night.
