Deacon welcomed to St. John the Baptist in Milton

July 29, 2018

The Episcopal Church of St. John the Baptist, Milton, announced the addition of the Rev. Paula J. Waite as its deacon. Her duties include visitation, supporting the many existing outreach ministries of the parish and developing new ones, and preaching.

Though serving at St. John the Baptist, Waite also will continue serving as chaplain at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes. Her training in hospital chaplaincy was at Christiana Care Health System in Newark. She has also ministered at St. Anne's Episcopal Church, Annapolis, Md.

Waite holds a bachelor of art degree in economics, summa cum laude. She also obtained a master's in theology, receiving the Dean's Award for Outstanding Achievement in Theological Studies. Prior to her calling to clerical ministry, she had been in banking and insurance, and had created her own business specializing in window treatments.

"A deacon serves not only parishioners," she observed, "but, very importantly, those beyond the walls of the church. I am deeply honored yet humbled to be called to this service by God and by this parish."
