Wawa Hoagiefest coming Friday, July 16
Wawa has announced that Lewes has been selected for the fourth and final stop on its Hoagiefest celebration tour.
During the 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. celebration Friday, July 16, at the Lewes Wawa on Route 1 at Dartmouth Drive, Wawa will host a Hoagie for Heroes hoagie-building competition and donate a truckload of hoagies to a local food bank.
The public is invited to attend Lewes Hoagiefest, which also includes 1960s-themed contests, giveaways and festivities celebrating the region's hoagie tradition. A "Peace, Love and Provolone" exhibit, carnival games and inflatables are part of the event.
The hoagie-building competition pits 10 members of the local police department against 10 members of the Army Reserves Offices in Georgetown. After a brief training session, teams will battle to see who can build the most hoagies in three minutes. Wawa will donate money on behalf of both teams to the charity of their choice.
A special hoagie will be prepared early Friday morning and served to visitors during the celebration.
