James Joseph Hannagan, successful carpenter

December 6, 2018

It is with broken hearts that the family of James Joseph Hannagan announces his passing after a long battle with MDS Monday Dec. 3, 2018 at the age of 68.

Jim was born in Wilmington June 11, 1950, son of Hubert and Elizabeth Hannagan.  He grew up in Bear where he attended Christiana High School, and at the age of 19 enlisted in the military.  He served 11 years in the Delaware Army National Guard.  Jim’s creativity and energy led him to become a carpenter by trade, and to take on various work throughout his life.

Jim is survived by his daughters Tanya (Todd) and Tina (Kurt) and his three spirited grandchildren Elin, Holden and Harrison; his only brother Tom; and nephews Tommy and Mark, who will all miss him dearly.

Jim will forever be remembered for his generosity, kindness and fun-loving nature.  He spent his last few years in Millsboro, surrounded by the water, friends, his devoted companion Lisa Kauffman, and his dog and side-kick, Poncho.

A private service and celebration of Jim’s life is planned for the Spring.  Memorial donations in his memory can be made to The MDS Foundation (www.mds-foundation.org / 1-800-MDS-0839.)
