Food Lion foundation donates to Catholic Charities

January 7, 2019

Catholic Charities Inc. has received $2,000 from the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation and will use the gift to support its food assistance program for residents throughout Delaware and the Eastern Shore of Maryland.

“Catholic Charities is grateful for the support provided by the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation gift,” said Richelle A. Vible, executive director. “Each year, Catholic Charities provides over 8,000 bags of food staples to clients who struggle to put nutritious food on their tables. The funding from the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation will ensure our client households will not have to make a choice between purchasing food and having a warm place to live this winter.”

Catholic Charities operates two food assistance programs: a cooperative for income-qualified clients that provides food staples distributed monthly along with nutritional information, and education on shopping and cooking on a budget; and emergency pantries that provide three days’ worth of food for those in crisis. The food cooperatives are located in Sussex, Kent and New Castle counties in Delaware, and Somerset County, Md. The emergency pantries are located at Casa San Francisco in Milton and Seton Center in Princess Anne, Md.

The food assistance programs are a part of the agency’s Basic Needs Program, providing homelessness prevention, rapid rehousing and energy assistance services, together with thrift services. The agency also offers behavioral health and immigration services.
