The Delmarva Christian boys’ basketball team defeated Holly Grove Christian School 71-36 Jan. 25.
The Royals took a 28-22 lead into the halftime break, then blew the game open in the second half, outscoring the Eagles 43-14. They scored 31 points in the third quarter alone. They have outscored their opponents 131-49 in the last two games.
Royals junior Andrew Workman scored 20 points for his team. Chris Vonhof and Seth Stevens each added 14.
“After our [J-term] break, we’ve had two nice games this week to get our confidence up,’” said Workman. “Next week, we really get back into things.”
“So far our strength of schedule hasn’t been as strong as we would like it to be,” he continued. “But if we keep winning, I like our chances to get into the state tournament.”
“We came back from J-term focused and ready to go into the next part of the schedule,” said Vonhof. “This game definitely helps us. It’ll help us going forward into the ESIAC tournament, and hopefully into the state tournament.”
“Holly Grove are competitors,” said Royals head coach Micah Twedell. “It’s the second time we’ve played them, and each time they have given us a run for the money. It’s nice to play them coming back from J-term. I told my players in the locker room that if they want to play in the state tournament, they have to win the next game. My team is so competitive. They come to play every game. It makes my job really easy. We have such guys who put the team ahead of themselves.”
The Royals were set to play First State Military Academy Monday, Jan. 28, then travel to Salisbury Christian Wednesday, Jan. 30.
