Ronald James Wootten, dedicated volunteer
Ronald James Wootten, “Ronnie,” 70, passed away unexpectedly at his home Monday, Jan. 28, 2019. He was born March 12, 1948, to the late Granville T. and Nora Ruth Fisher Wootten in Millsboro.
Ronnie served in the U.S. Coast Guard, and went to work for the State of Delaware in the public school system and served as chief custodian for the Indian River School District. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, and was an incredibly active man in many community affairs. He served many years as a volunteer in the Millsboro VFW Ambulance Service, and volunteered for nearly anything he heard about where someone or some organization needed some help. He was a beloved character around town - at Pizza Palace, McDonald’s, Pizza King, and especially at church. He loved to tell stories and joke around. He had a “sweet tooth” and always blamed “the church mouse” with his impish grin for the disappearing sweets from the church office stash. He was also an energetic and motivated Trump supporter. He will truly be missed in Millsboro.
He is survived by his sister, Darlene Hall of Bishopville, Md.; and two nephews: Glenn Hall Jr. and Greg Hall, both of Bishopville; and a niece: Susan Holloway and her husband Robert, of Berlin, Md. Also surviving is one grand-niece: Rachel Holloway. In addition to his parents, he was preceded by his daughter: Shari Wootten.
A Memorial Service and Celebration of His Life will be held at Grace United Methodist Church Sunday, Feb. 3. Visitation and calling hours will be from 2 till 3 p.m. with the Memorial Service starting at 3 p.m. The Rev. Karin Tunnell will officiate. Interment arrangements are private.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Grace United Methodist Church, PO Box 566, Millsboro, DE 19966.
Arrangements By Watson Funeral Home, Millsboro.
