The Reminders to play for Jusst Sooup fundraiser at Lewes Senior Center Feb. 23

February 21, 2019

A Jusst Sooup Ministry fundraiser will be held from 12 to 3 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 23, at the Lewes Senior Center, 32083 Janice Road, Lewes.

All donations will be given directly to the ministry. Volunteers and friends will provide a variety of lunch offerings and nonalcoholic beverages, and The Reminders will provide live musical entertainment. A tax-deductible donation of $15 will be requested at the door.

The ministry strictly relies on donations, and this fundraiser supports Dale Dunning’s efforts to support the low-income and homeless in the community.

The soup kitchen is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., every Thursday. Church services are held every Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m., with soup being served until noon.

Dunning serves a wide variety of people who are homeless, jobless or low-income workers who go to her for food, clothing, sometimes shelter in a local motel, or just a friendly ear and a hug. Over the past 19 years, she has opened 18 soup kitchens in all three counties with the help of her family and volunteers.

In 2011, a jubilant crowd cheered, “Move that bus!” as ABC’s “Extreme Makeover Home Edition” and hundreds of volunteers revealed the Jusst Sooup Ranch to the Rev. Dale Dunning, her husband Ken and son Brooks. Although there were several unforeseen obstacles to overcome, the ranch has continued to serve its purpose to this day.

The Reminders’ music is a unique blend of Americana and folk rock with deep roots in blues, country and gospel. The trio consists of longtime local musicians John Thompson, Ed Shockley and Kevin Short, and their music speaks to listeners’ souls. Several years ago, Ed Shockley wrote a song for Dale Dunning called “Jusst Sooup.” They will sing it for her as well as performing other hits at the fundraiser.
