Letter: Don’t put onus on restaurant employees

March 21, 2019

I really thought the letter written on behalf of a patron who visited a restaurant was a little over the top.

First of all, I’m 79 years old and if I can’t take my own coat off, open the menu and put a napkin in my own lap, I should stay home or have a partner/spouse or friend with me. Suppose I had a fragile condition and my arm hurt - a hostess can injure a person without meaning to.

On a cruise ship, the waiters do this kind of thing but not with day-to-day life. In today’s world, all of this sounds good but is too much to be expected to happen.

I don’t depend on restaurant employees to help me when I am dining out, and I will move to a retirement village before I expect this kind of service when I do dine out.
