Joe Conaway joins CHEER board

Joe Conaway of Georgetown has joined the board of directors of CHEER Inc., the countywide nonprofit agency that serves the needs of senior citizens in Sussex County. Conaway previously was a member of the CHEER Foundation Committee before joining the board of directors in March.

Conaway is a Delaware native who returned to Sussex County in 1967 to become the last principal of Bridgeville High School and the first principal of Woodbridge High School. He served 13 years as Sussex County administrator and was Delaware’s chief deputy insurance commissioner in 1987. He now runs his own land-use consulting company.

Conaway served two terms as president of the Woodbridge school board and four terms as president of the Bridgeville Town Commission. He is presently chair of the Sussex Economic Development Action Committee.

He and his wife of 58 years, Joann, have three daughters and a son, seven granddaughters and four great-grandchildren.
