Cape Henlopen Elks hold Christmas in July fundraiser

Proceeds benefit local charities and projects
August 10, 2019

The Cape Henlopen Elks Lodge 2540 recently held a fun-filled major fundraiser, Christmas In July, at the lodge on Beaver Dam Road.

The hall was filled with music, laughter and more than 150 guests all celebrating Christmas on what was one of the hottest days in July. It was a night to remember. Guests arrived to the music of the ‘60s and ‘70s provided by Charlie and the Cool Tones. Dinner included all the traditional Christmas fixings with apple and pumpkin pies for dessert.

Event Chair Joy Schreck said, “I am thrilled that everyone had a wonderful time. The generosity of local businesses made our silent auction worth over $3,000. The night also included a 50/50 and lots of door prizes. This is an evening where we put on our dancing shoes and wore our Christmas best! Even Santa was here for photos and wish lists.”

Exalted Ruler Ralph Patterson said, “It is part of the Elks mission to support charitable and community programs and needs. The proceeds from our Christmas in July event will go right back into the community.”

Elks are humanitarians and clearly demonstrate that good-hearted people acting as a group can produce more good works than by acting separately.
