Operation Market Garden 75th anniversary hangar talk set Sept. 21

September 14, 2019

The Air Mobility Command Museum will host the Operation Market Garden 75th anniversary hangar talk at 1 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 21.

It was 75 years ago this September when Field Marshal Bernard Law Montgomery hatched one of World War II’s most daring operations, Operation Market Garden.

At the time, the Allies were desperate to find a way across the Rhine and into Germany’s heartland. Three allied airborne divisions and one British Army Corps were given the task in what became history’s largest airborne operation, one in which the museum’s own C-47, Turf and Sport Special, participated.

Presenters Dick Marks, Patrick O’Neill and Nick Saborio will detail the planning and events that culminated in a bitter loss for the Allies. They will share the triumphs and failures, the people and machines, and ultimately the impact of Operation Market Garden on the rest of the war.

The museum is  at 1301 Heritage Road, Dover AFB, Dover. From Delaware Route 1, take Exit 91 and follow the signs. Admission and parking are free. For more information, call 302-677-5939 or go to www.amcmuseum.org.
