County Bank shows support for Lewes Fire Department

County Bank recently presented the Lewes Fire Department with a check for $500 in support of the ongoing fire, rescue and emergency medical services provided to Lewes and the surrounding communities.
For more than 200 years, the citizens of Lewes have been protected by the Lewes Fire Department. Locals and members of the department remember the fire of New Year’s Eve 1970 as possibly the worst fire in the company’s history, when the firefighters had to battle 50-mile-per-hour winds, snow, sleet and rain to contain the fire that raged in the business district of Lewes for several hours.
Today the volunteer service is composed of more than 100 members providing round-the-clock protection and assistance to the residents of Lewes and the surrounding area in a variety of emergency and non-emergency situations. “We are especially proud to support these volunteers who put their lives on the line for our safety,” said Leisa Sharrock, assistant vice president and manager of County Bank’s Lewes branch. “County Bank recognizes the importance of what these volunteers do, and we are pleased to demonstrate our continued support of our local fire departments.”
