True Orleans: Shamarr Allen and Underdawgs to play Jan. 24

Authentic New Orleans musicians Shamarr Allen and the Underdawgs will perform at 8 p.m., Friday, Jan. 24, at Milton Theatre.

Local musician Bryan Russo will perform the opening act.

Hailing from the Lower Ninth Ward of New Orleans, Allen is influenced by jazz, hip-hop, rock, funk rhythms, blues and country. Allen has collaborated with many renowned artists around the world such as Willie Nelson, Patti LaBelle, Galatic, Harry Connick Jr. and Lenny Kravitz. With a scintillating and unique sound, look and exemplary talents, Allen transcends musical boundaries.

Russo, a former multi-award-winning journalist, has spent close to 20 years working diligently as a singer/songwriter in the Mid-Atlantic region sharing the stage with more than 30 national recording artists. The stories he now tells through music mark the deepest and strongest songs of his career.
