Richard ‘Hal’ H. Welsh, bank consultant
Richard "Hal" H. Welsh, 71, of Lewes passed away Thursday, Jan. 23, 2020, at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Pa. He was born Aug. 21, 1948, in Locksley, Pa., son of the late William A. and Anne (Tomlinson) Welsh.
Mr. Welsh grew up in Swarthmore, Pa. He held multiple degrees including a master of science in accounting from Penn State University, a bachelor’s degree in economics from Widener University and a master's in business administration in finance from Drexel University. Mr. Welsh embarked on a lifelong career in banking as an assistant treasurer at Sun Ship, a division of Sun Company. He went on to join Chase Manhattan Bank and then First Maryland Bank (First Omni) as the CFO until their merger. With all his experience he began to consult for major banks including: First Boston, Fleet and Bank of America.
Mr. Welsh was active in his community and enjoyed volunteering. He was a past board member of Sussex County Habitat for Humanity and the Wolfe Runne Homeowners Association. He was an avid sports and Phillies fan. Mr. Welsh had a passion for gardening and biking on the local Junction-Breakwater bike trail. Most of all, he enjoyed his family and his precious grandsons who were the apples of his eye.
Mr. Welsh is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Carol Welsh of Lewes; his sons: Richard Welsh and his wife Jenn of Mullica Hill, N.J., and Steve Welsh and his wife Sloan of Lewes; his brothers: William Welsh and his wife Deanie of Cornwall, Pa., and George Welsh and his wife Lindsey of Suffolk, Va.; his sisters: Judy Auten and her husband Don of Topsham, Maine, Kathy Fox and her husband Keith of Bryn Mawr, Pa., and Anne Suthers and her husband Peter of Le Boung, France; and his beloved grandchildren: Mack and Rex.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Feb. 8, at 11 a.m., at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, where friends may visit beginning at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be private.
