Jean Burbage Burton, retired florist

April 14, 2020

Jean Burbage Burton, 92, of Frankford passed away Saturday, April 11, 2020, with her family by her side.  Jean was born Oct. 1, 1927, in Millsboro, and was the first child born to the late Asher and Alice Burbage of Cedar Neck Road.  In 1950, she married Allen Burton of Ocean View. At the time, her husband Allen was a florist in Ocean View, but soon moved her and their three children to Florida where they opened a flower and landscaping business in Cape Coral.

During the 15 years living in Florida, Jean would pack up her children and spend summers with her mother.  There was nothing she wanted more than to move back to be closer to her family.  In 1970, Jean got her wish when the family moved back to Ocean View.

She is preceded in death by her husband Allen in 1992; a stepson Bruce Burton; and brothers: Herbert Burbage, John Burbage and Joseph Burbage; sisters- and brothers-in law: Grace Mitchell (Horace) and Ruth Tyre (Lemuel).

She is survived by her three children: Gary Burton, Gregg Burton and Susan Marsett and son-in-law John Marsett with whom she resided; a stepdaughter Bonnie Curtis of Richmond, Va.; grandchildren: Eric Burton, Kimberly Burton-Wisseman, Stephanie Wood, Kelly Kline (Anthony), and Christina Marsett; great-grandchildren: Alexis and Jacob Wisseman, Caleb Wood and Dylan Burton.  She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to CHEER Inc., 546 South Bedford St., Georgetown, DE  19947.
