Allegiant Air extends Salisbury-Orlando schedule

Low-cost carrier offers flights through Aug. 14

Allegiant Air has extended its schedule of flights between Salisbury-Ocean City Wicomico Airport and Orlando Sanford International Airport in Florida.

In December, the company announced the airline would begin Thursday, Feb. 16, flying twice a week between Salisbury and Orlando.

Flights had been scheduled through Tuesday, May 15, but the company announced Jan. 10, it would extend the schedule through Tuesday, Aug. 14.

The airline is accepting reservations for a limited number of reduced-rate fares – $59.99 one-way – through Wednesday, Jan. 25.

Michael Reichartz, Allegiant Air senior vice president of marketing, said the company extends its flight schedule four times a year to offer the lowest fares possible to travelers who book farthest in advance.

“On average, we have over 20,000 customers book during this time period, many of them saving 30 percent or more on their vacation package,” Reichartz said.

Allegiant partners with more than 60 Orlando hotels to offer low-priced vacation packages.

The airline also provides low-cost car rental service and discounts on theme-park tickets, dinner shows and day tours.

Allegiant will use 166-passenger, McDonnell Douglas MD-82 jets on the route. Travel time will be about two hours – roughly the same time it takes to drive from the Eastern Shore to major airports in Baltimore or Philadelphia.

Las Vegas-based Allegiant is classified as a low-cost carrier. The airline started operating in 1987 under the name WestJet Express. For additional information, go to allegiant.com.
