The Middletown Cavaliers girls’ lacrosse team got chewed up in the churning gears of Cape cutters and slashers May 19 at Champions Stadium, trailing 14-0 at the half en route to a 21-1 loss to the Vikings.
Cape will host a quarterfinal game Saturday, May 22, picking up the winner of the Thursday night matchup featuring Dover at Sussex Academy, which was played after the Cape Gazette’s deadline.
The Vikings, who went spread red aka “don’t shoot” in the first half, featured four players with hat tricks as Haley Craig, Riley Keen, Ella Rishko and Emily Monigle each had three goals. Freshman Carrie Clausius had two goals, while Molly Mendez, Lexi Nowakowski, Lindsay D’Ambrogi, Lulu Rishko, Lauren Head, Lindsay Rambo and Maren Buckaloo each had one goal.
Abigail Fisher scored for Middletown.
Assist leaders for Cape were Keen with three; Craig, Clausius and Monigle with two each; and Ella Rishko, Nowakowski, D’Ambrogi and Buckaloo with one apiece.
Logan Reeves had three saves for Middletown.
There were no goalie saves for Cape, as Destiny Kusen and Anna Lopez split time in the cage.
The four quarterfinal games Saturday are at the home site of the higher seeded team.
