Wayne R. Bennett, worked in restaurants

Wayne R. Bennett of Brunswick, Ga., formerly of Milton, passed away Saturday, Aug. 21, 2021, in the Southeast Georgia Health Center in Brunswick.

Mr. Bennett was born in Milford, the son of the late Russell and Ruth Campbell Bennett. He was a 1968 graduate of Milton High School.

Wayne worked in the restaurant industry for most of his adult life, including places like Ryan's Steakhouse and Krispy Kreme Donuts, and was most recently employed as a cook at The Love Shack in Jekyll Island, Ga. He was an avid shagger – past president and current DJ of Golden Isles Shag Club in St. Simon's Island, Ga., where he and his wife Judy taught shag lessons to aspiring shaggers. He was loved by all who knew him, never met a stranger, and always had a smile on his face.

Mr. Bennett was predeceased by his parents, Ruth and Russell Bennett; and a son, Evan Bennett. He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Judy Horton Bennett of Brunswick; his five children: Amy Peck, Nathan Bennett, Cynthia Thrift, Summer Bennett, and Cory Bennett; stepchildren, Larry Doke and Miranda Smith; his siblings: Michele Bernheimer (Joe) of Milton, April Irelan (Don) of Millsboro, and David Bennett of Knoxville, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service was held Sept. 1 in Brunswick, Ga.
