Rehoboth Boardwalk group meeting Oct. 12

The Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk & Beach Committee will meet virtually at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 12. The agenda calls for a discussion on wireless communication installations on the Boardwalk, and end-of-summer updates by Police Chief Keith Banks and Public Works Director Kevin Williams.  Those wishing to speak must preregister by emailing City Secretary Ann Womack, awomack@cityofrehoboth.com, at least 24 hours before the meeting. Lewes Mayor and City Council meets Oct. 11

Lewes Mayor and City Council will meet at 6:30 p.m., Monday, Oct. 11, at city hall and via Zoom. Council will consider an ordinance to require fire suppression in all new residential construction, an ordinance related to fences in the historic district, and site-plan approvals for Lewes Brewing Company on Savannah Road and Fancy Pants Holdings LLC on Kings Highway. Council will also consider an ordinance to clean up language in city code, set public hearings for ordinances related to floodplain and source water protection, and possibly take action on a request for on-street ADA parking spaces on Illinois Avenue and Iowa Avenue. Council will also consider recommendations from the parks and recreation commission on names for Beach 1 and Beach 2. A link to the meeting can be found at lewes.civicweb.net.

Sussex council meeting Oct. 12

Sussex County Council will meet at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 12, in the county administration building, 2 The Circle, Georgetown. Included on the agenda are discussion and possible introduction of an ordinance on buffers, wetlands and drainage, and possible vote on a conditional-use application by Carl M. Freeman Companies for a 70-room hotel and 8,500-square-foot restaurant on a 9-acre parcel at the Route 54-Bennett Road intersection west of Fenwick. Rehoboth adds yard waste drop-off

Rehoboth Beach is now accepting yard waste at its recycle yard, 37540 Oyster House Road. The service is available to Rehoboth Beach residents and licensed businesses, but not commercial contractors. Yard waste may be dropped off from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Monday, Friday and Saturday.

The city will continue to pick up residential yard waste the first, third and fifth Wednesdays of the month. As long as it fits in the 30-yard container provided, dropped-off yard waste does not need to follow maximum collection size requirements or be bundled; it may be loose or in paper bags. No waste in plastic bags will be accepted.

Accepted yard waste includes trimmings, dead plants, flower and vegetable debris, hay or straw, ivy, leaves, shrub trimmings, pine cones and needles, tree limbs, weeds, and wood chips or mulch.

In addition to yard waste, the city’s recycle yard also accepts dropped-off recyclable materials from city residents and businesses during the same hours Monday, Friday, and Saturday.

Lewes resiliency group meets Oct. 12

The Lewes Executive Committee on Resiliency will meet at 4 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 12, at city hall and via Zoom. The group will receive a presentation from City Planner Janelle Cornwell on the city’s existing ordinances on flooding and sea-level rise. They will also receive a presentation from principal planner Jennifer Reitz on approaches to sea-level rise from other places. A link to the meeting can be found at lewes.civicweb.net

Democrats to hold Blue Wave Gala 

The 14th District Democratic Committee will hold its annual fundraiser from 5 to 7 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 6, at the Glade Clubhouse, Rehoboth Beach.

Called the Blue Wave Gala, the event will feature food and drink, lively entertainment, an auction and special appearances by prominent Delaware Democrats.

“Our goal is to raise enough funds to be able to support the campaigns of Delaware Democratic candidates up and down the 2022 ballot,” said Leslie Ledogar, committee chair. “The committee is here to recruit and support quality Democratic Party candidates at every level of the ticket. And the Blue Wave Gala will allow local Democrats to have a great time in the process.”

Republicans for Sussex gathering set Nov. 5

Republicans for Sussex will host Mix and Mingle, a pre-holiday get-together from 7 to 9 p.m., Friday, Nov. 5, at the Sussex County Association of Realtors office, 23401 Park Ave., Georgetown. Attendees can enjoy a relaxing evening before the holiday rush begins. A variety of hors d’oeuvres, desserts and beverages will be served. A cash bar with assorted wines will be available. Republicans for Sussex is a PAC comprising the presidents and other leaders of the Republican clubs in Sussex County.
