Lewes Lights tour extends registration deadline to Nov. 25

November 22, 2021

Lewes Lights has extended its registration deadline to Thursday, Nov. 25, for businesses and homeowners who wish to be included on the map for the free holiday driving tour of illuminated outdoor Christmas décor.

The volunteer elves at Lewes Lights are hoping to fill the the First Town in the First State with beacons of illuminated properties from Lewes Beach to Five Points, and from Gills Neck Road communities to those along New Road.

In creating the tour maps, organizers are working with the City of Lewes to ensure proper traffic flow and routes are delineated.

This year, all homes and businesses east of Route 1 near Lewes are eligible to be registered and featured on the map. They are also eligible to compete in all award categories. Properties east of Route 1 can compete for awards in six categories, including the new White Christmas listing of homes celebrating the holidays with stylish white lights and décor.

All homeowners in the greater 19958 ZIP code will also be eligible to register and compete in the Clark Griswold of Lewes Award category

As in 2020, homeowners can opt out of competing and enter under the Joy category, which is decorating for no award beyond the joy and love of the season.

Santa will flip the giant light switch to open Lewes Lights at 5 p.m., Friday, Dec. 3, on Manila Avenue in Lewes. Neighbors, local dignitaries, volunteers and holiday revelers will be on hand to celebrate as Santa leads the season’s first candy cane caravan mini-tour atop a vintage fire truck.

To learn more and register, go to leweslights.org. To stay up to date, check out Lewes Lights on Facebook and Instagram.

Organizers want members of the community to know that every home does not need to be a professional-looking showpiece or over-the-top display. Big or small, simple or extravagant, homey or designer-decorated homes and businesses collectively come together to make Lewes shine bright.

Only addresses will be listed on the map; homeowner names are kept private, and information provided at registration is never shared.
