Lewes fourth-grader leads Worcester Prep for a day

December 24, 2021

Worcester Preparatory School fourth-grader Lea Jaoude of Lewes took on the role of head of school Dec. 16.

Her parents purchased the Head of School for a Day during the school’s virtual gala fundraiser auction in April.

As head of school, Lea asked all students, teachers and administrators for a donation of $1 to go toward SOS Children's Villages of Lebanon, and in return, those who donated were allowed to wear a “crazy hat” for the day. SOS supports orphaned children deprived of parental care and provides them with family-based care, preventing child abandonment.

Lea’s busy schedule was filled with leadership meetings, visiting classrooms, touring campus, doubling recess times for grades 1-5, adding recess to both middle and upper schools’ schedules, and treating teachers to donuts. Ice cream was served to fourth-grade students during lunch, and during PE class, they got to have an indoor snowball fight.

At the end of the day, Lea offered a presentation on the SOS Children's Villages of Lebanon to her peers.

The next opportunity to place bids for Head of School for the Day will be available at the 50th Anniversary WPS Gala Saturday, April 30, at the Hyatt Place in Dewey Beach.
