Agricultural or equine scholarship applications open

The Delaware Equine Council Foundation will award $1,500 scholarships to one or more individuals who meet the required criteria. To be eligible, an applicant must be a U.S. citizen or legal resident alien, and a Delaware resident or Delaware Equine Council member. It is permissible to join during the application process. Applicants must be enrolled and in good standing in an agricultural or equine course of study or related field, or a veterinary or vet tech program in the United States and have completed, or be about to complete, one full college semester.

VFW Auxiliary 7234 announces scholarship contests

The VFW Auxiliary 7234 of Ocean View has announced continuing education scholarship entries, which are due Tuesday, Feb. 15; Creative Patriotic Art contest entries for ninth- to 12th-graders due Thursday, March 31; and Illustrating America contest entries for kindergartners through eighth-graders due March 31.

Coastal Concerts music scholarship applications due Feb. 15

Coastal Concerts is accepting applications for its 2021-22 music scholarship program. Young musicians from middle school through high school who reside on the Delmarva Peninsula are eligible. At least one scholarship per year is made available to a Sussex County student.

Coastal Concerts encourages musically talented students – vocalists, guitarists, percussionists, brass, woodwind or string players – to apply for one of its scholarships. Amounts range from up to $1,500 each for high school students, and up to $1,000 each for middle school students. Since the introduction of the scholarship program in 2002, 48 students have received awards totaling over $47,700.

Students will compete only against others in their age group. Awards will be based on both written essay and music performance and can be used for music camps, university courses, instrument purchase or repair, or for music lessons.

The application period runs through Tuesday, Feb. 15. Submissions will be evaluated in early to mid-March. Awards will be announced shortly thereafter.

Scholarship applications due to Mediacom Feb. 15

Mediacom Communications is offering $60,000 in scholarship support for high school seniors who plan to obtain further education. The scholarship program is in its 21st consecutive year and Mediacom’s investment will award $1,000 World Class Scholarships to 60 high school seniors. Scholarship recipients can use the financial awards to support postsecondary college costs or vocational training from an accredited institution starting in fall 2022. Award selection is based on academic achievement and leadership. Applications for Mediacom’s World Class Scholarships are available online at mediacomworldclass.com. Information recently was sent to all high schools in areas where Mediacom delivers its high-speed internet services. “Our company makes it a priority to give back to communities in which we do business, and we believe one of the best ways is to invest in promising young students who will be our future leaders,” said Doug Frank, Mediacom regional vice president. 

The application deadline is Tuesday, Feb. 15. Applicants do not have to be Mediacom customers but must live in areas where Mediacom’s fiber-rich broadband network delivers gigabit-speed internet service. To learn more, email scholarship@mediacomcc.com.

Alzheimer’s Awareness scholarship entries due March 1

High school seniors impacted by Alzheimer’s disease can win up to $5,000 for college through the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America’s Teen Alzheimer’s Awareness Scholarship.

College-bound high school seniors are invited to apply for the scholarship by submitting an essay of 1,500 words maximum describing how Alzheimer’s disease has impacted their lives, and what they have learned about themselves, their family and/or their community through their experience with Alzheimer’s.

“Teens across the country are making an impact because they’ve been impacted by Alzheimer’s – they are caring for loved ones, volunteering, working at care settings, raising awareness and conducting research,” said Charles J. Fuschillo Jr., AFA president and CEO. “These college scholarships will help tomorrow’s leaders in the fight against Alzheimer’s disease with their college education. We invite all high school seniors who have been affected by Alzheimer’s to enter.”

Awards include first prize of $5,000, second prize $3,500, third prize $2,500, fourth prize $1,500, and fifth prize $1,000 plus honorable mentions between $750 and $400.

Caesar Rodney scholarship applications due March 1

The Caesar Rodney Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution announced applications for the 2022 Caesar Rodney Chapter scholarship are due by Tuesday, March 1. This scholarship seeks to recognize outstanding student volunteer service and honor young people who have made a difference by inspiring others toward volunteer service. Eligible applicants must be high school seniors who reside in Sussex or Kent counties, or who are the child or grandchild of a primary member of the Caesar Rodney Chapter living outside these counties. Successful applicants must be active volunteers in school and the community, and have a minimum GPA of 2.5. To apply, go to dessar.org and select CR 2022 Scholarship.

Delaware Community Foundation scholarship applications due March 15

Delaware students are invited to apply for scholarships available through the Delaware Community Foundation. The deadline to apply is Tuesday, March 15. 

Students can apply for most scholarships by completing a single online application, available at delcf.org/scholarships

On the website, students can review all criteria and award amounts before beginning the application process. Candidates also can view the foundation’s scholarship compendium, with information on all available scholarships. The online application system guides applicants through a series of questions to determine which scholarships they may be eligible for. Students are automatically considered for every scholarship for which they meet the minimum criteria. There is no cap on the number of scholarships or the amount students may receive. Funding from many of the scholarships may be applied to the costs of textbooks and fees, in addition to tuition. Some are one-time awards, and others are renewable.

Graybeal Scholarship applications due March 15

The Dr. C. Edward Graybeal Scholarship application period is open for Milford High School graduating seniors who have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher. Award selection is based on a combination of community service, good character and personal recommendations from school faculty or staff. Recipients are eligible to receive a multiyear award totaling $20,000.  Applications are due by Tuesday, March 15. The late Dr. Graybeal, the scholarship’s namesake, understood the value of financial aid in helping further students’ academic careers. He established a scholarship fund with the help of the CenDel Foundation early in 2017. This fund is used for scholarship grants to educational institutions on behalf of awarded students who qualify under the criteria specified.
