Boardwalk Plaza Hotel employees ‘blown away’ by $5,000 tip
Thanks to a social media nomination, employees of the Boardwalk Plaza Hotel in Rehoboth Beach recently received and shared a $5,000 tip from the Lemon-Aid Foundation’s Great American Tip Off initiative.
The Lemon-Aid Foundation was founded by Marcus Lemonis, an entrepreneur, philanthropist, advocate and TV personality who leads Camping World as CEO and chairman of the board, and hosts HGTV’s “The Renovator” and CNBC’s “The Profit” and “Streets of Dreams.”
Because of the great impact the COVID-19 pandemic has had on the food service industry, Lemonis launched the Great American Tip Off in November and pledged $1 million from his foundation to tip servers and workers across the country.
“Ultimately, it’s about our service providers who serve without expectation, and it’s important to acknowledge those that provide opportunities for others. These are the real heroes – the ones that need the recognition,” said Lemonis. “I encourage you to join the movement, and award those who give great service with a great tip.”
“This surprise gift comes at the right time, as our staff is so hardworking and was completely blown away by this kind gesture,” said Karen Mest, operations manager for the Boardwalk Plaza, a Victorian-style hotel offering modern amenities, fine dining and a beachfront view of the Atlantic Ocean. “We will definitely pay it forward in the future,” she said.
